When you are pro-war even the abortion doctors call you "baby-killer."

Programming Note

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is on Flix (Pacific) right about now.

No, I do not watch high-brow IFC/Sundance movies all the time. Nothing quite like totally freaky aliens who look like clowns kidnapping and eating people.

FYI: Coulrophobia - Fear of clowns

Movie AND useful info. Now, get off my fucking BLOG!

Ahhh, Celebrities

Gotta love celebrities standing up on soap boxes talking down to us peons, giving us such wisdom as Kate Hudson's quite on TRL (MtV):

"When you do a comedy (movie) you can't lie."

Err, uhm, okay... She's definitely her mother's daughter. I wonder if she dropped out of High School, like other celebrities who feel it is their duty to point out how stupid George W. Bush is (who has an MBA). Celebrities such as Jennifer Anniston or Martin Sheen.

I also love getting schooled about raising minimum wage from Ben Affleck, an actor who 1) has been an actor since he was a little kid and has no idea what it's really like to work for minimum wage to support himself let alone a family and 2) had never voted for anything, ever. I wonder if the guy who went to a southern state to get a weapon permit would support gun control legislation by his buddy Ted "I didn't kill that woman" Kennedy.

I love this quote by John F'in Kerry:

"I don't own an SUV, my family owns an SUV."

Just about everything in my blogger profile is shared by sub-20-year-old females. Goddamn that's funny.

I guess my tastes in cinema and books appeals to teenage geek chicks. Not sure what that means, not sure I want to know.

Online Job Search a Waste of Time?

Applications/Resumes submitted electronically: 100's
Interview(s) achieved via initial internet contact only: 2
Jobs* achieved via internet search, application, interview: 0 (Zero)
Time spent: Many, many months

Applications/Resumes submitted in person, via fax: ~Dozen

Jobs achieved via submitting application/resume in person/via fax: 1

Jobs achieved via walking in to an office after seeing a newspaper add: 3

I think Monster.com and web-based job posting is full of shit. No one responds, no one reads their emails, no one processes resumes.

I just recently submitted a resume electronically, showed up in person a day or two later and HR had no clue who I was. Fucking idiots. Brilliant!

How the Bush Administration was Scooped by the Media

The Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse "scandal" quickly devolved into ammunition for the anti-Bush crowd to damage the president. How did this innocuous and isolated incident get so out of control?

Here's my view of what happened:

1. The abuse was reported to the media and was largely overlooked by said media several months ago. Investigations were ongoing, photos were known to exist (to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and not the President, allegedly).

2. Rumsfeld failed the administration by not informing the President about the photos, which surely would eventually be leaked. Here is where Rumsfeld and the Bush administration made their fatal flaw.

Months passed...

3. The media received the photos (deliberately, no outrage was made of the "press release") and immediately began a campaign to undercut the President's credibility and handling of Iraq. The photos were apparently taken all on one or two days and included many "personal" images of soldiers acting badly (aren't people supposed to be free to act how they please according to the left?).

4. Rumsfeld refused to fall on his sword, Bush refused to hold him accountable.

5. Media feeding frenzy outshines an American having his head forcibly removed on live (internet) TV. More pictures are slowly released to inflict more damage on Bush over a longer period of time hammering at his approval rating as we head towards an election that may very well define our country's future for many many years to come.

Now. Here is what should have happened.

1. Media is informed of abuse incidents, called "isolated" and "unfortunate" acts by "poorly trained" soldiers. All will be held accountable. BTW here are some selected photos of the incidents in question and what really happened before and after the photos were made. Stress this was isolated and happened on only one or two days.

2. Bush comes before American people, not the media wags, within days of discovery of the abuse and stresses how this was a terrible thing and those responsible will not go unpunished, states he has seen all photos and materials and is getting weekly updates as to the investigation of the "isolated incident." Accountability is the theme. Rumsfeld is seen, but not heard. The President is in charge after all. The buck stops there.

3. Rumsfeld testifies before Congress that the "abuse" was found quickly and contained and soldiers were re-trained or rotated out or will be prosecuted for committing the abuse or allowing this to happen. Stresses that we must also remember these were "insurgents" or "terrorists" and photos taken out of context do not tell the whole story, regardless of the intentions of the few soldiers committing these acts.

4. As a show of compassion any prisoners not considered a threat are released with those who may have been mistreated receiving compensation (money, car, satellite dish, whatever). Bush reiterates we are a nation of laws, those guilty will be held accountable. Bush must be seen as taking control and "fixing" the "wrongs" and not constantly doing cleanup for Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld should not speak publicly except to report to Congress.

If this had happened this mess would have been a none-story after a week or two. The media's dribs and drabs of "new" photos that were all taken on one occasion by a very small group out of well over 100,000 soldiers would seem like opportunism for a story that was neutralized by a firmly in-control President. A President who took the responsibility for the incident(s) and made swift action to close the matter and move forward.

Bush takes a momentary hit, appears firmly in control and aware of what's going on. The pundits harp about it and it is quickly repalced by Nick Berg and again Bush comes out and points to this video and reiterates THIS is what we are fighting against. End of story.

Why didn't this happen? Who is advising Bush to hideout from the realities of war? We expect a leader, not a manager passing around blame and juggling things to keep all the plates in the air at once. Be forceful but not bossy, preempt the media and seize control of these messes before you lose the election! Please!

Korth Korea Train "Accident"?

I have been thinking about that North Korea massive train accident (explosion).

News coming from the Pacific Rim points to a missile shipment on the train accompanied by numerous Syrians (what terrorist link?) that were all obliterated in a massive explosion.

Some people assume their was rocket fuel on the train. Fine, but there would be obvious tanker trucks and there would have been more flame/fire damage than I saw in overhead photos. I have seen liquid fuel explosions on a train and they are massive fireballs not so much concussive blasts.

A concussive blast is more likely with a high-explosive not a low-explosive like some type of fuel (on its own, not like a fertilizer-fuel bomb).

It is starting to appear as though the train was targeted by a precision munition, unfortunately at a station. The type of explosion is simply too massive to be a ground-level bomb or (based on explosion damage photos) a "rocket" fuel explosion. It's possible, but it doesn't appear likely. Of course the photos I saw were low-res and had terrible contrast.

A single munition dropped from very high altitude would come in very fast, any witnesses would have to be looking up for several seconds and not be killed by the resulting massive explosion.

A single very powerful munition would be needed to take out all of the train cars containing the "missile" components and the people (Syrians) accompanying the shipment. Several cars worth of stuff in back, plus a car or two forward would need to be taken out.

A single munition from a single plane would be harder to track, harder to defend against. We have stealth bombers that can literally fly around the world. Does North Korea have any tech that can detect them? Would we need overflight clearance for a high-altitude stealth aircraft? Was China involved (the explosion occurred near the Chinese border)?

Remember the very subdued reaction from the White House? What was the cause of this? Israel fights against a bunch of terrorists hiding in crowds of civilians (reported only as a crowd of civilians in the media) and Colin Powell comes out and decries it, the White House officially calls for restraint, etc. etc.

A massive explosion in North Korea and we do, almost nothing.

I bet there was a phone call, or even a message from Rice the morning of the explosion along the lines of "package delivered, Mr. President." or some such thing.

Why not?

Star Trek: Enterprise Renewed

According to my wife via Nashville radio, Star Trek: Enterprise was renewed for a fourth season (hopefully it will be better than the first two and even the third).

Yeah, that was me

I guess since Amish Tech Support is closed, I can reveal that I was part of the group-blogging for a little while.

Take a guess as to who I was. I really was co-blogger there. Really. I swear.

Fine, don't believe me.

Apple Everywhere

Apple switched gears with it's movie trailers and is now requiring iTunes 4.5 to view the "full screen" trailers. The URL actually routes through iTunes Music Store.

Previously you had to have QuickTime "Pro" ($30 upgrade) to view them. It's somewhat disingenuous as you get a large movie, which is not really full screen, its most of the screen.

If you look hard enough you can find a tool to extract the last-viewed movie trailer from iTunes and save it to disk. Then if you look again you can find a tool to extract the audio track. One might use these tools to say, download a music video and pull out the song bypassing the music store *cough* not that I would. *cough*

Got Some Junk in my Trunk

What's in your vehicle's trunk?

We got an old VCR, actually I think it's playback only, that doesn't work. And a bag of kids clothes from a garage sale that my mother-in-law gave to us.

No tools, no emergency repair kits or anything else.

Not too bad.

Hollywood out of Ideas, Proof?

Isn't there a striking amount of similarity between Pixar/Disney's new movie The Incredibles and the Fantastic 4?

It seems someone took the Fantastic 4, changed genders around a bit and flipped The Human Torch to the Human Popsicle (Mr Freezy?).

I'm too tired to really care, been working all weekend on a software project (MONEY!). And I got more lined up (MORE MONEY!).
